einjährige, krautige Pflanze bis zu 80 cm mit wechselständig angeordneten, buchtig gezähnten, tiefgrünen Blättern und bedornten Blattstielten und Blattnerven. Die kleinen, weißen Blüten erscheinen in den Blattachseln, gefolgt von ca. gelb-grün marmorierten Früchten, die etwa die Größe eines Golfballs erreichen.
Verwendung: Die Früchte werden in der thailändischen Küche in grünem oder rotem Curry verwendet
