immergrüner kleiner Strauch bis ca. 2 m mit wechselständig angeordneten, kleinen, ledrigen, tiefgrünen Blättern mit dicken, roten Blatträndern. Die kleinen grünlichen Blüten erscheinen in dichten Dolden am Ende der Triebe, gefolgt von runden, roten, bei Reife schwarzen Früchten
