schnellwüchsiger, oftmals mehrstämmiger, buschiger Strauch oder kleiner, ausladender Baum bis ca. 5 m mit wechselständig angeordneten Blättern, bestehend gegenständig angeordneten, herzförmigen, glänzend sattgrünen Blättern und gesägten Blatträndern. Die röhrenförmigen weißen Blüten erscheinen in dichten Büscheln direkt am Holz, gefolgt von essbaren grünen, bei Reife schwarzen, süßen, aber geschmackslosen Früchten
