immergrüner, kleiner, knorriger, zweihäusiger Baum bis zu 12 m mit rundlicher Krone und wechselständig angeordneten, ledrigen, elliptischen, oberseits glänzend tiefgrünen, unterseits hellen, graugrünen Blättern. Die kleinen, creme-weißen, manchmal violett getönten Blüten erscheinen in Büscheln am alten Holz. Aus den Blüten entwickeln sich eßbare, rundliche bis eiförmige, fleischige, bei Reife orangefarbene Früchte mit saurem Geschmack direkt am Holz
