laubabwerfender, mehrstämmiger, buschiger Strauch oder kleiner Baum bis zu 4 m mit rot-braunen Zweigen (im Alter grau) und gegenständig angeordneten, bis zu 10 cm langen, elliptischen bis lanzettlichen, grau-grünen Blättern mit karminroter Herbstfärbung. Die zahlreichen, kleinen weißen Blüten erscheinen in Dolden am Ende der Triebe. Aus den Blüten entwickeln sich kugelige, kleine weiße Früchte in lockeren Rispen an roten Zweigen
