sukkulenter kleiner bis zu 10 cm hoher, mattenbildender Bodendecker oder Kriecher bis ca. 1 m mit gegenständig angeordneten, dreikantigen, fleischigen, sattgrünen Blättern und rötlichen Kanten. Die bis zu 6 cm großen, pink-violettfarbenen Blüten öffnen sich am Nachmittag. Aus den Blüten entwickeln sich eßbare, bis zu 2,5 cm lange und 1,5 cm breite, rote, feigenförmige Früchte mit süßem Geschmack.
Verwendung: Die Früchte werden roh oder in Fruchtsalaten verzehrt, als Marmelade, in Konserven verabeitet oder können getrocknet werden.

Location: bright + keep constantly moist, not wet

Substrate: cactus or potting soil + 2/3 sand or perlite
Culture: bright at approx. 10-15°C + keep constant slightly moist
Overwintering: Older specimens bright at approx. 5-20°C and only in larger intervals and small quantities so much water that the root ball not dries out completely.
Note: drought-resistant! Carpobrotus can be planted only in very mild areas with good winter protection on a dry South or west wall.
