immergrüner, dichtbelaubter, rundkroniger, zweihäusiger Baum bis ca. 20 m (in Kultur bis zu 15 m) mit kurzem, ca. 1,2 m ø dickem Stamm, gegenständig angeordneten, bis zu 20 cm langen und 10 cm breiten, ledrigen, breit elliptischen, glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern. Die bis zu 4 cm großen, duftenden, 4-6petaligen, weißen, kurzgestielten Blüten mit orangefarbenen Staubblättern erscheinen einzeln, als auch in 2er- oder 3er-Gruppen in den Blattachseln, aus denen sich bis zu 20 cm große, eßbare, bei Reife bräunliche Früchte mit gelb-orangefarbenem, saftigem, süßem, aromatischem Fruchtfleisch entwickeln. Der Geschmack erinnert ein wenig an Aprikosen!
