ausladender, kleiner Strauch oder Baum bis zu 10 m mit verzweigten Dornen an Stamm und Zweigbasis, wechselständig angeordneten, ovalen bis elliptischen, ledrigen, tiefgrünen Blättern mit weinrotem Neuaustrieb. Die kleinen, duftenden grünlich-weißen Blüten erscheinen in achselständigen oder endständigen Büscheln, gefolgt von bis zu 7 cm großen, eßbaren, bei Reife purpur-roten, braun gesprenkelten Früchten
