immergrüner Strauch oder Baum bis zu 20 m mit gegenständig angeordneten, elliptischen, bis zu 25 cm langen und 7 cm breiten, glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern mit ausgeprägter Nervatur. Die weißen bis cremefarbenen Blüten erscheinen in Büscheln in den Blattachseln, gefolgt von eßbaren, ca. 3 cm großen, ovalen bis rundlichen, fleischigen, bei Reife violettfarbenen Früchten
