immergrüner, verholzender Kletterstrauch, Ranker oder kleiner Baum bis zu 10 m mit rötlich-braunen bis schwarzen Zweigen, bedeckt mit rötlich-braunen Haaren, wechselständig angeordneten, bis zu 14 cm langen und 6 cm breiten, ovalen-elliptischen, ledrigen, tiefgrünen Blättern. Die ca. 2 cm großen dunkelgelb bis cremefarben oder auch grünlichen Blüten erscheinen in bis zu 9 Blüten in Büscheln am Ende der Triebe, denen glänzend rot-purpurfarbene, feigenähnliche, jedoch ungenießbare Früchte folgen
