immergrüner, kleiner Baum bis zu 7 m (am Naturstandort bis zu 15 m) mit gegenständig angeordneten, elliptischen, glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern mit auffälliger Nervatur und bronzefarbenem Neuaustrieb. Die strahlend gelben, im Alter über orange bis roten Blüten erscheinen in dichten, aufrechten Rispen, gefolgt von eßbaren, ca. 2 cm großen, bei Reife gelben Beerenfrüchten
