immergrüner, oftmals vielstämmiger Strauch oder kleiner Baum bis zu 5 m mit gegenständig angeordneten, länglich-ovalen, bis zu 17 cm langen und 10 cm breiten, tiefgrünen Blättern. Die kleinen, gelben Blüten erscheinen in vielblütigen Rispen, sowohl in den Blattachseln als auch am Ende der Triebe. Aus den Blüten entwickeln sich eßbare, bei Reife orange-rote Früchte mit süßem, cremigem Fruchtfleisch, daß im Geschmack an Erdnußbutter erinnert
