laubabwerfender, zweihäusiger Baum bis ca. 20 m mit wechselständig angeordneten, bis zu 15 cm langen, ovalen bis elliptischen oder auch 1- bis 3-gelappten, glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern mit gelber bis purpurfarbener Herbstfärbung. Die grünlich-gelben Blüten erscheinen in endständigen Dolden meist vor dem Laubaustrieb und verströmen einen angenehmen Zitronenduft. Aus den Blüten entwickeln sich kleine, ca. 1 cm große, eiförmige, dunkelblaue Früchte

Pre-Treatment: soak ca. 24-48 h in lukewarm water
Stratification: ca. 3-4 months in moist sowing mix at 2-5°C in the fridge or unheated greenhouse
Sowing Time: all year round > fall/winter preferred
Sowing Deep: ca. 1-2 cm
Sowing Mix: Coir or sowing mix + sand or perlite
Alternative: direct sowing outdoors in fall + cover with a thick mulch layer
Germination Temperature: ca. 18-20°C
Location: bright + keep constantly moist, not wet
Germination Time: until germination takes place
Irrigation: in the growing season regularly water
Fertilization: monthly 0,2%ig or long-term fertilizer
Pests: Spider mites > especially under glass
Substrate: potting soil + sand or perlite
Culture: in the 1st year bright or dark at approx. 0-5ºC in unheated greennhouse + keep slightly moist only
Overwintering: After this time period older specimens can be planted outdoors.
Note: Frequent transplanting should be avoided because of the long tap roots!
