immergrüner, vielverzweigter Strauch oder kleiner Baum bis zu 5 m mit wechselständig angeordneten, ledrigen bis zu 12 cm langen, elliptischen oder , lanzettlichen oder umgekehrt eiförmigen, glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern. Die röhrenförmigen, grünen Blüten mit maroonfarbener Tönung erscheinen in 3-10 blütigen Dolden am Ende der Triebe. Aus den Blüten entwickeln sich bei Reife lilafarbene bis schwarze eiförmige Beeren
