langsamwüchsiger, immergrüner oder auch laubabwerfender, bedornter Strauch oder kleiner Baum bis zu 5 m mit wechselständig angeordneten, tiefgrünen, am Rand fein gesägten Blättern. Die duftenden, bis zu 8 cm großen, kamelienartigen, weißen Blüten mit goldgelben Staubgefäßen im Zentrum erscheinen in den Blattachseln, denen eßbare, bei Reife, hartschaligen, rötlich-bräunliche Früchte folgen.
Verwendung: Die sehr harte und haltbare Schale der Früchte werden zu Aufbewahrungsbehältern, Schnupftabakdosen, Schellen, Rasseln verarbeitet.

Germination Temperature: ca. 22-25°C
Location: bright + keep constantly moist, not wet
Germination Time: ca. 3-6 weeks
Irrigation: in the growing season moderate water + let dry between watering
Fertilization: biweekly 0,2%ig with cactus fertilizer
Pests: Scale insects, Spider mites > especially under glass
Substrate: cactus or potting soil + 1/3 grit + 1/3 sand or perlite
Culture: bright at approx. 20°C + keep constant slightly moist
Overwintering: Older specimens bright at approx. 15-20°C, and just so much water that the root ball not dries out completely.
Note: regelmäßiges Entspitzen und/oder leichter Rückschnitt fördert bessere Verzweigung
