immergrüner, kleiner rundlicher Strauch bis zu 4,5 m mit wechselständig angeordneten, lanzettlichen, oberseits glänzend tiefgrünen Blättern und roten Stielen. Die zwittrigen, sternförmigen weißen Blüten mit gelben Staubgefäßen erscheinen zu mehreren in endständigen Dolden, gefolgt von schwarzen Beerenfrüchten. Alle Teile dieser Pflanzen duften intensiv nach scharfem Gewürz
