immergrüner, in Trockenzeiten laubabwerfender, zweihäusiger, tief verzweigter, rundlicher Strauch oder Baum bis ca. 10 m (in Kultur bis zu 3 m) mit gefleckter Rinde und wechselständig angeordneten, bis zu 20 cm breiten, fast kreisrunden, an der Basis herzförmigen, ledrigen, sattgrünen Blättern mit auffällig rötlicher Nervatur. Die zart duftenden, kleinen, gelblich-weißen Blüten sitzen in bis zu 35 cm langen, aufrechten, später überhängenden Ähren am Ende der Zweige, aus denen sich bis zu 40 cm lange, hängende Fruchtstände mit bis zu 50 dicht gedrängte, ca. 2 cm große, runde, eßbare, bei Reife rote bis rotbraune, fleischige, saftige Früchte entwickeln

Note: drought-, salt- and wind tolerant! Waterlogging will be also briefly tolerated!
