immergrüner Strauch oder kleiner Baum bis zu 6 m mit wechselständig angeordneten bis zu 40 cm langen Blättern, bestehend aus bis zu 12 gegenständig angeordneten, ovalen bis lanzettlichen, tiefgrünen Blättchen mit rosafarbenem Neuaustrieb in langen schlaff herabhängenden Quasten (Laubausschüttung). Die großen Blütendolden bestehen aus bis zu 50 dicht gedrängten, magentafarbenen, röhrenförmigen Einzelblüten mit weit herausragenden, rosafarbenen Staubfäden und goldgelben Staubbeuteln und erscheinen sowohl an Stamm (Kauliflorie) und Ästen (Ramiflorie), als auch am Ende der Triebe

Propagation: Seeds/Cuttings
Pre-Treatment: scarify/roughen + soak ca. 24 h in lukewarm water
Sowing Time: all year round > only fresh seeds germinate reliably
Sowing Deep: ca. 1-2 cm
Sowing Mix: Coir or sowing mix + sand or perlite
Alternative: in a zip bag with slightly damp coir > until germination takes place
Germination Temperature: ca. 25-28°C
Location: bright + keep constantly moist, not wet
Germination Time: ca. 4-8 weeks
Irrigation: in the growing season richly water
Fertilization: biweekly 0,2%ig or long-term fertilizer
Pests: Scale insects, White fly, Spider mites > especially under glass
Substrate: potting soil + clay + sand or perlite
Culture: bright at approx. 20-25°C + keep constant slightly moist + high humidity
Overwintering: Older specimens bright at approx. 15-20°C and according to ambient temperature keep the root ball slightly moist always and pay attention to increased humidity!
Note: As soon as the seedlings are small young plants they should be repotted into larger container, because Brownea blossoms only in large pots.
