immergrüner oder auch laubabwerfender Strauch oder kleiner Baum bis 7 m mit geschwollenem Stamm und wechselständig angeordneten, 3- 5-gelappten, bis zu 15 cm langen, beidseitig zart behaarten Blättern. Die glockenförmigen, pinkfarbenen bis dunkelroten, ca. 5 cm großen Blüten erscheinen in Büscheln an aufrechten Blütenständen
