immergrüner Konifere bis zu 25 m mit dicken, aufrechtem Stamm und schirmförmiger-rundlicher Krone (im Jugendstadium kegelförmig) und quirlig angeordneten Ästen, die dicht mit schuppenartigen, übereinanderlappenden, dicken, ledrigen, stechenden, tiefgrünen Blättern besetzt sind. Die eiförmigen, weiblichen Zapfen sind bis zu 15 cm lang, und benötigen zur Reife bis zu 3 Jahren, männliche hingegen sind eher zylindrisch bis eiförmig und ebenfalls bis zu 15 cm lang, eßbare Samen

Propagation: Seeds
Stratification: ca. 4 weeks, with the tip down in moist sowing mix in the fridge or unheated greenhouse
Sowing Time: all year round > fall/winter preferred
Sowing Deep: ca. 1/2 with the tip down into substrate + 1/2 uncovered
Sowing Mix: Coir or sowing mix + sand or perlite
Germination Temperature: ca. 15-20°C
Location: bright + keep constantly moist, not wet
Germination Time: until germination takes place
Irrigation: in the growing season regularly water
Fertilization: monthly 0,2%ig or long-term fertilizer
Pests: Spider mites > especially under glass
Substrate: potting soil + clay + sand gravel mixture
Culture: in the 1st year bright at approx. 0-5ºC in unheated greennhouse + keep slightly moist only
Overwintering: After this time period older specimens can be planted outdoors. Container plants bright at approx. 0-5ºC and just so much water that the root ball not dries out completely.
